The space
Welcome to Grenier des Alpes!
Grenier des Alpes is the newly renovated top floor and “grenier” of the historic Hotel des Alpes in the center of the high alpine village of La Grave, France. Situated directly across from the glaciated 3983 meter peak of La Meije
Completed in 2010, Grenier des Alpes is the result of an extensive renovation of the top floor and roof structure of the historic Hotel des Alpes.
The result of the rooftop renovation is a light-filled, private alpine retreat, with spectacular views and state-of-the-art amenities. While the exterior remains in keeping with the original design of the historic structure, the new interior design offers the perfect balance of an open living area in which to relax, prepare meals and dine, and the luxurious privacy of your own room and custom private bathroom. Such privacy and speciousness offers a unique experience in the French Alpes.
The interior woodwork, floors and much of the furniture is crafted from local tamarack — one of the hardest soft woods grown on the lower slopes of La Meije. This warm, strong wood features wonderful grain, and is lively and naturally water repellent — perfectly suited for mountain living.
Designed to accommodate medium-sized groups (8-14 people), Grenier des Alpes offers the flexibility to house smaller groups by request, pending availability.
Le Grenier des Alpes is the result of an extensive renovation of the top floor and roof structure of the historic Hotel des Alpes. This project was completed in 2010.
The goal of the project was to rehabilitate the building using an environmentally conscious approach and aesthetic. Modifications to the exterior appearance were kept to a minimum, in keeping with the original design.
The interior design balances both private guest rooms and open common space. This design also results in a space that requires little to no artificial light during the day and creates welcoming and free space.
